Under the auspices of the Secretary of State for Social Affairs, Mouna Osman Aden, the Djiboutian Agency for Social Development (ADDS) conducted last Monday in Obock, the distribution of agricultural equipment for agricultural cooperatives from this region. The event saw the participation of the Obock Region Prefect, the Director of ADDS, the Agriculture and Forestry Director of the Ministry of Agriculture, the President of Obock Regional Council, and the parliamentarians from this region.
The initiative stems from the government’s desire to increase the country’s agricultural capacity and is part of a larger project that aims to provide appropriate solutions to the impacts of refugee displacement. Funded by the World Bank and executed by the ADDS, this project concerns three countries; Djibouti, Ethiopia and Uganda.

So much the better as Africa, and more precisely, the Horn of Africa is facing a crescendo immigration and an influx of refugees. Our country is facing these problems and does not skimp on the means to provide adequate responses and offer a cottage to these populations.

Nevertheless, the impacts related to the resurgence of issues related to immigration and refugees, and the impacts on the local populations of countries, are not small. This is why the World Bank has agreed to finance a project to help these people in the countries of the Horn of Africa, in several areas. This project, entitled « project in response to the development of the movement of the Horn of Africa » ​​of its abbreviation PRDDCA, is implemented by the ADDS and consists of three components targeting two regions of the country, namely the Obock region. and that of Ali Sabieh.

Indeed, under the impetus of the State Secretariat for Social Affairs, the ADDS implements programs aimed at improving basic social services in particular: health, education, drinking water, water and sanitation. support to youth and basic sanitation and also facilitates access by vulnerable populations to sources of funding, micro-enterprise and finally encourages the participation of beneficiaries in the development and management of programs and projects. implemented. This World Bank-funded project aims to provide human and logistical support to displaced populations by strengthening the resilience capacities of communities affected by displacement in the three countries mentioned above.

That’s why at the distribution ceremony last Monday, the boardroom of Obock Regional Council hosted the reunion of farmers in this region. Careful work was done upstream by the ADDS teams in charge of this project so that all farmers could have this equipment.

In total, more than seventy agro pastoral perimeters are concerned including eleven gardens located in the chief town of the region.

This is to say the crucial nature of this project which aims to improve economic and social services and infrastructures, sustainable management of the environment, and the granting of livelihoods.
